Braithwaite’s situation with Barcelona was one of the ‘mini-soap operas’ of the summer. The Danish striker wanted to fulfill the entirety of his contract and so he asked a club that had the purpose of getting rid of him. With the fans against him and forced to suffer an unsustainable situation, the player ended up being rescued by Espanyol in the last hours of the market. However, he does not forget about the neighboring team. These were his statements:
On the situation with the club
“Did I take it as bullying? Actually, I do not know. But I think it’s important that you always think about other people’s mental health.”
“I know how things work in this world. Unfortunately, football is also a business. But luckily I also have some experience, which means you don’t always have to be emotionally involved in these things. In a lot of ways, I can only smile a little bit at all the things that have happened behind the scenes.”
On his role at Barça
“I have nothing negative to say about my time in Barcelona. I think I have disproved many critics. I was top scorer last season before getting injured. But then there was a change of coach, he wanted something else, and that’s part of football life. But I have shown that I have the level to play in Barcelona”.
His relationship with Javier
“…I’ve known for a long time, the coach didn’t believe in me and I had to leave Barcelona. That’s why I only took a week’s vacation. I took my physical trainer to the United States where he worked out twice a day. Yes, we almost slept in the same bed, so my wife was not at all happy. Therefore, I am even more pleased that the hard work I put in before the change is now paying off. But I didn’t expect it to go so well from the first match.”
