“The Puerto Rican singer is an icon of the romantic ballad and the pop genre in Spanish throughout the world, which has consolidated that success with more than 50 million,” the organization detailed through a statement.
Chayanne will be recognized with the distinction of Icon granted by the Billboard Latin Music Awards and will perform during that gala to be held on September 29 in Miami.
“The aforementioned award is given to artists whose careers have not only lasted over time, but have also become a reference for their genre,” the organization detailed this Thursday through a statement.
“The singer is an icon of the romantic ballad and the pop genre in Spanish throughout the world, that has consolidated that success with more than 50 million albums sold,” he added.
Elmer Figueroa Arce, his real name, will be awarded the Billboard Icon Award and will sing during the ceremony. In addition, the Puerto Rican artist will be featured in the Billboard Icon Q&A session on September 28 during the Billboard Latin Music Week, according to ‘The Hollywood Reporter’.
The singer-actor has 25 No. 1 songs on the Billboard charts, including nine No. 1s on the Hot Latin Songs chart. In that same list he also managed to position 29 songs in the Top 10, a record that made him the third most successful male Latin pop artist in the history of the list.
Recently, the interpreter released ‘Te amo y punto’, which reached number 11 on Billboard’s Latin Pop Airplay list, the highest position since the song ‘What have you done to me’, along with Wisin, reached number 7 in 2017.
The song marks his first release in more than four years since ‘Di what you feel’ and ‘Choka choka’, with Ozuna, in 2018.
