Manzana announced that starting October 5, 2022, prices for apps – and purchases within them, excluding auto-renewable subscriptions – on the App Store will increase in a number of countries, including Chili as the only Latin American affected by the measure.

The other countries on the list are Egypt, Japan, Malaysia, Pakistan, Poland, South Korea, Sweden, Vietnam and all those that use the euro as currency, the US said in a statement.

The technology giant explained that in the case of Vietnam, the increases “also reflect the new regulations that require Apple to collect and remit the applicable taxes, which are the value added tax (VAT) and the corporate income tax. (CIT) at rates of 5%, respectively”.

Apple did not give the reasons for the price increase in the rest of the countries. The last increase in Chile had occurred in September 2020, when VAT began to be charged on digital services.

Apple has a specific way of regulating the prices in its digital store offer. The company presets 88 categories or levels (tier) that developers can choose from. Now, for example, tier 3 applications, which used to cost $2,500, will cost $3,300.
