According to the president of that instance of Congress, Iván Cepeda, the municipalities were prioritized in the emergency plan delivered last Friday by human rights platforms and social organizations to the country’s president, Gustavo Petro.

Also, comply with the provisions that Petro and the government adopt in this situation.

“We will evaluate with the authorities and civil society of these municipalities the protection measures for these populations, as well as humanitarian actions in their territories,” Cepeda announced.

He explained that the visits will be distributed among the 45 congressmen that make up said commission, who together with the authorities will evaluate the measures adopted by the Public Force to prevent said attacks and protect social leaders.

In addition, they will seek to strengthen humanitarian initiatives that contribute to de-escalating the armed conflict and violence in these areas.

The session also approved including the cities of Cali and Barrancabermeja in the prioritized territories, as well as providing support and follow-up to members of the Public Force who, in recent events, have been victims of the armed conflict.
