The American leisure and entertainment giant The Walt Disney Company announced this Wednesday that it had, at the end of the third quarter, 152.1 million subscribers of its Disney + service, while the number of paying users of ESPN + reached 22.8 million and those of Hulu added 46.2 million users, which raised the total subscribers of the different platforms of the multinational to 221.1 million, 27.3% more than a year before and above the 220.6 million of Netflix.
In addition, Disney obtained an attributed net profit of 1,409 million dollars (1,372 million euros) in the third quarter of its fiscal year, which represents an advance of 53.5% compared to the result recorded in the same period of the previous year, according to the company, which reached more than 221 million subscribers on its platforms, thus surpassing Netflix’s 220.6 million.
The turnover of the multinational between April and June reached 21,504 million dollars (20,947 million euros), 26.3% above the income corresponding to the same interval of the previous year.
By business segments, the media and entertainment division increased its turnover by 11%, to 14,110 million dollars (13,744 million euros), while the amusement park unit saw its revenues grow by 70%, to 7,394 million euros. dollars (7,202 million euros).
“We had an excellent quarter, with outstanding performance at our domestic theme parks, large increases in live sports viewership and significant subscriber growth across our streaming services,” said Bob Chapek, CEO of The Walt Disney Company.
Thus, in the first nine months of its fiscal year, The Walt Disney Company recorded a net attributable profit of 2,983 million dollars (2,906 million euros), 62.5% more than a year before.
The turnover of the multinational in its first nine months reached 62,572 million dollars (60,951 million euros), 28% more.
