Expande launches a new edition of supplier innovation cases in Chilean mining

The initiative makes visible the solutions, experiences, lessons and learning of 10 technology-based companies that are currently working with various clients in the industry.

Thursday, August 11, 2022.- Making visible and enabling greater opportunities for technology-based companies, startups and entrepreneurs who seek to scale their businesses in the mining industry is the objective of the V edition of the Cases of Innovation of Suppliers in Chilean Mining” launched by Expande, an innovation program open in mining of Fundación Chile.

The initiative, presented in a digital format of audiovisual capsules, highlights the cases of 10 companies (Sattel Chile, Kaivo3R, Vempto, Idemin, Grupo Eye3 Mining+, E-Mining Technology, Tres60, Aiko, Konatec, U-Sensing), which today they respond to the demand of the mining industry through innovation.

Its technologies are being implemented in companies such as Antofagasta Minerals, BHP and Codelco and are aimed at: protection of electrical circuits in mining equipment; solutions for safety and efficiency in the maintenance of SAG Mills; increased energy efficiency in water delivery systems; monitoring, dust control and irrigation on mining roads; geotechnical monitoring of the behavior of the gravel deposit through image processing; car sharing of mining trucks; systems for optimizing the use of fuel for large-scale mining; advanced sensors and real-time data management to optimize copper production; and multivariable submersible sensors for real-time monitoring of the flotation process.

“We are working day by day to contribute to the development of innovation ecosystems that allow both companies and suppliers to capture value for their businesses, through the incorporation and implementation of technologies,” said Ricardo Morgado, Director of Strategy and Development at Expande.

“This fifth edition of the Innovation Cases is an example of this and reinforces our commitment to make visible and inspire other technology-based entrepreneurs with the experiences of companies that today are paving the way for more sustainable, efficient and safe mining. There are already 29 mining supplier companies that we have been able to make visible in these five editions, which makes us very happy », he added.

“It is important to highlight that the innovative experiences that are embodied in this new edition were possible thanks to the collaboration of the mining companies, Antofagasta Minerals, BHP and Codelco, who played a key role in enabling the innovation and implementation processes of these solutions. », Morgado pointed out.

Representatives from the ecosystem also participated in the launch of the Innovation Cases, including Aurora Williams, Manager of the Antofagasta Region Mining Cluster Corporation; Carolina Carrasco, IDB Lab Lead Specialist; Claudio Maggi, Manager of Strategic Affairs of Corfo; and Pamela Chávez, General Manager of DomoLif. In addition to representatives of the mining companies that are members of Expande; Valentina Fuentes, BHP Supply Innovation Specialist; Julio Díaz, Corporate Manager of Innovation at Codelco; Francisco Lozano, Innovation Manager of Antofagasta Minerals; and Carlos Aros, Manager Communities & Innovation at BHP.
