United Nations, Sep 22 (Prensa Latina) The MIKTA countries, Turkiye, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia and Mexico, welcomed today the peace plan that will be presented by the Mexican representation at the UN, said Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard.
On his way out of a meeting with that group of nations, in which he advanced part of the peace plan in Ukraine and a parallel world truce of five years without conflicts, the Mexican foreign minister distributed a press release in which he confirmed the acceptance of the initiative.
He announced that he will present President López Obrador’s proposal to the United Nations Security Council on the morning of the Council.
In essence, he indicated, the proposal is to strengthen in the short term the possibility of mediation in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Both one nation and the other have recently warned about an escalation of the conflict, so now more than ever, it is timely to insist and strengthen the international community’s request for mediation and limitation of this war, he said.
Why do we care so much about the peace plan? she wondered. Well, because there are essential ethical considerations: thousands of people are suffering, thousands of lives have been lost, and for that reason alone we should do it; but also because it is affecting us due to inflation, he replied.
«The inflation that we are experiencing in the world is closely linked to this war and, the longer the war lasts, the more inflation we are going to have. Like the problem of fertilizer shortages, we are going to begin to have food difficulties, in various regions of the world, so that is why it is so relevant,” Ebrard said.
And I think, and we come now from a meeting with MIKTA made up of Turkiye, Indonesia, South Korea, Australia and Mexico, where we have raised this and it is well received, he said.
