The Serie wednesday (merlin), directed by Tim Burton for Netflix, based on the character of the crazy addams (the Addams Family), starring Jenna Ortega as Merlina Addams, will premiere all its chapters on November 23 on the streaming platform.
The story begins when young Merlina, whose English name is Wednesday, is expelled from her public high school for an incident involving a group of bulliesa pool and a bag of hungry piranhas.
For this, she is sent to Nevermore Academy, a mysterious magical boarding school where her parents met. On this new site, she Merlina will learn much more than can be found in any textbook, as a series of brutal murders come to her attention and test her typical level of nonchalance.
Ortega, an actress born in California with Mexican and Puerto Rican roots, said that the series follows the character Merlina in her adolescent stage and no longer the girl we know from the series and movies of the crazy addamsso he must learn to use his psychic powers in his school life.
“His sarcastic and snide comments don’t sound so charming when they come from someone who perhaps knows more than a ten-year-old girl,” Ortega explains in a statement. “It’s like a balancing act. We didn’t want her to sound like any teenage girl, but we didn’t want her to be too ignorant either.”
Likewise, the actress added that a previous trait of the character was her sarcastic comments that finished off a scene and that is why the public likes it so much. In this series, however, she Merlina appears in all the scenes. She has the opportunity to show more dimensions and become a little more real person, something that we have never seen, ”she added.
Merlina comes from the mind of filmmaker Tim Burton (beetlejuice), as well as showrunners Alfred Gough and Miles Millar (Smallville). Also, the cast is completed by Gwendoline Christie, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Emma Myers and Hunter Doohan.
