New earthquake shakes western Mexico, leaves one dead

The epicenter of the tremor was located 20 kilometers deep and 46.9 kilometers south-southwest of the small town of Aguililla, in the western state of Michoacán, according to data from the United States Geological Survey, very close to the epicenter of Monday’s earthquake that left two dead. and dozens of damaged buildings.

The earthquake triggered the seismic alert in Mexico City, forcing some people in their night clothes to take to the streets.

The head of government of the capital, Claudia Sheinbaum, and Civil Protection authorities reported the death of a person in the city, of some 9.2 million inhabitants, when he fell from the stairs of his home while trying to vacate the building.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said on his Twitter account that the movement was also perceived in the states of Colima, Guerrero and Jalisco.

Monday’s magnitude 7.6 quake struck on the anniversary of the deadly 1985 and 2017 earthquakes.
