President Recep Tayyip Erdogan attended the Opening Ceremony of the V Islamic Solidarity Games held at the Konya Metropolitan Municipality Stadium with the participation of the member countries of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Federation and the Organization for Islamic Cooperation.
Erdogan watched the ceremony together with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus President Ersin Tatar, Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama, Algerian Prime Minister Aiman Benabderrahmane, President of the Sports Federation of Islamic Solidarity, Prince Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Saud.
Erdogan, who began his speech with the Basmala (in the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful), said:
“I am starting the sports activities of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games. I congratulate everyone who contributed on behalf of myself and my nation. Good luck.”
The opening ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran. When the members of the protocol arrived at the stadium, the National Anthem was sung and then the Turkish flag was raised.
Subsequently, the convoys of the countries participating in the games carried their flags in alphabetical order and entered the stadium.
