In the American League, the favorite to win the award was the right-hander from the Houston Astros, Justin Verlander, followed by Dylan Cease, from the Chicago White Sox; Shane McClanahan of the Tampa Bay Rays; Alek Manoah of the Toronto Blue Jays and Kevin Gausman of the Toronto Blue Jays.
