Scaloni annoyed by Romero; Messi will play against Honduras

Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni was upset on Thursday by Cristian Romero’s delay in joining the team in the United States for a series of friendly matches, and warned that he could even exclude the starting defender, who has faced problems in the visa process.

“It is a situation that bothers me, I would like to have him here. He is stuck in Argentina with a visa issue and cannot travel, ”said the strategist at a press conference in Miami prior to the friendly that he will play on Friday against Honduras, in preparation for the World Cup in Qatar.

“It’s really a problem, it’s the last date we have to get together and train” before the World Cup, Scaloni said.

The defender of English Tottenham did not process in London on time the documentation required by the United States for the entry of Argentines. The problem arose from the closure of the US embassy in the English capital due to mourning after the death of Queen Elizabeth II, explained the Argentine Football Association (AFA).

The Manchester United defender, Lisandro Martínez, had the same problem, so both players first traveled to Buenos Aires to request documentation. So far, the visa has only been granted to Martínez, who is already in Miami and would play as a starter against Honduras.

Neither Scaloni nor the AFA reported the reason why Romero did not get the visa.

If the defender does not join the Albiceleste on Friday, Scaloni will not take him into account for the friendly against Jamaica next Tuesday in Harrison, New Jersey.

The coach announced that Germán Pezzella or Nicolás Otamendi will accompany Martínez against Honduras.

Of the rest of the team, he only confirmed the star and captain Lionel Messi.

“He always wants to play and he will always play with me. It is a case different from the others. He’s fine, happy, he has found in his team (PSG from France) a way to play that understands him”.

The Albiceleste would form with Emiliano Martínez; Nahuel Molina, Pezzella or Otamendi, Martínez, Marcos Acuña or Nicolás Tagliafico; Rodrigo De Paul, Leandro Paredes, Giovanni Lo Celso or Enzo Fernández; Messi, Lautaro Martinez and Angel Di Maria.

Regarding the rival, Scaloni defined Honduras as “a team with tradition and good footballers, we have the utmost respect for them.”

He announced that he will use the blank shock to experience tactical variants without giving details.

“This selection showed that no matter who plays, the team plays the same. We know what we play… we have a team that came from memory, surely tomorrow we will make some variants to give some boys a chance. We know that whoever enters will do well”, closed Scaloni.

Argentina, world champion in 1978 and 1986, will debut against Saudi Arabia on November 22 in Group C of the World Cup, which also includes Mexico and Poland.
