School Supplies, Food and Back-to-School Fairs in Aurora – NBC Chicago

ILLINOIS- To help families and in preparation for the school year, members of the Aurora City Council have organized several back-to-school fairs and events this weekend and next.

Saturday, August 13

Councilmember Emmanuel S. Llamas and Latino Fraternities and Sororities will host a back to school event with food, music, school supply giveaways and activities for children and families.

  • Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Location: Garfield Park, 825 Sheffer Road.

Annual back to school event hosted by Councilmember Patty Smith, Calvary Church, and Interfaith Food Bank with backpack, socks, and food pantry giveaways.

  • Time: 12 to 2 pm
  • Location: Calvary Church, 9S200 Rt. 59.

Sunday, August 14

Family pre-school event hosted by Councilman Juany Garza with free ice cream and tacos for all, a live mariachi, clown show and much more at McCarty Park, 350 E. Galena, 12-5 p.m.

Next weekend

Saturday, August 20

Back to School Fair organized by Councilmember General Sherman Jenkins, Mike Saville and the African American Men Of Unity organization, with a drive-thru delivery of school supplies. Children must be present in the cars in order to participate.

  • Time: 4:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Location: Greene Field Park, 774 Illinois Ave.

Sunday, August 21

Councilwoman Scheketa Hart-Burns, with the support of several churches and community organizations, will give away school supplies, offer free food and haircuts, and host other activities for children, music and more.

  • Time: 1 to 6 pm
  • Address: Martin Luther King Park | 42 N. Farnsworth Avenue
