Smashing Pumpkins advance their new album-opera with ‘Beguiled’

Smashing Pumpkins have announced a new album. ‘ATUM: A Rock Opera In Three Acts’ is a work effectively divided into three parts, made up of a total of 33 tracks, which can be heard in its entirety in April 2023. However, we won’t have to wait until then to listen to it, at least , in parts.

Like Beach House with ‘Eleven Twice Melody‘, or like so many groups and artists today, Billy Corgan’s group will publish their twelfth album by EPs or fascicles: the first will be released on November 15, the second on January 31, and the collection will be completed on April 21 . That same day a special edition of the disc will be released in the form of a box, which will contain 10 previously unreleased tracks.

But it won’t be necessary to wait month after month to discover the content of ‘ATUM: A Rock Opera in Three Acts’. Every week starting today, September 20, Corgan will reveal a song from the album via the ‘Thirty Three with Billy Corgan’ podcast. The 10 unpublished boxet will not be released on the podcast.

The first of those songs, ‘Beguiled’, is out now, and it’s “classic” Smashing Pumpkins in their sound halfway between punk-rock and ’90s college rock. Its music video officially premieres this afternoon at 18.30.

By size, one of his most ambitious works, ‘ATUM: A Rock Opera In Three Acts’ is considered the sequel to other Smashing Pumpkins double albums, Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness (1995) and ‘Machina/The Machines Of God’ (2000). It is the successor of ‘CYR‘, published in 2020.
