Sony XDev is supporting Team Ninja in the development of Rise of the Ronin

Jason Stewart, Senior Producer Sony XDevhas confirmed through the tweet above that his team is collaborating with the Team Ninja for the development of Rise of the Ronin.

Fumihiko Yasuda, the president of Team Ninja and director of the game, already explained that his new work is “without a doubt the most ambitious and challenging project” that the Japanese have undertaken to date, and for this had been collaborating with Sony for more than seven years in the development of the game, although until now the direct involvement of the company was not known.

Sony XDev is a support team that works with third-party studios around the world, providing production, management, design, and publishing support. Although it seems clear that in this case it is the Japanese division that is in charge of its support, which shares tasks with what was the defunct japan studiothe Liverpool-based studio has collaborated on the development of games such as LittleBigPlanet 1-3, Sackboy: A Big Adventure, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, Tearaway, Destruction AllStars and Returnal.

Rise of the Ronin is the new open world RPG from Team Ninja that was presented during the State of Play of last week and of which, we were saying, we know that it will arrive as console-exclusive to PlayStation 5, so we can imagine that it will also come to PC. The game published by Koei Tecmo is set in Japan at the end of the 19th century, and aims to “build a thorough representation of the most important revolution in Japanese history, including the darkest and most unpleasant chapters.”

Rise of the Ronin will be published in 2024 for Playstation 5 and presumably also pc.
