Countdown. Starting this Friday and until Sunday, the Laver Cup 2022 will be held at the O2 Arena. The Europeans will try to win the fifth edition after always triumphing: in Prague in 2017, Chicago in 2018, Geneva in 2019 and Boston in 2021.
Each team is made up of six players and led by a team captain, of sport. The captain of Europe is Bjorn Borg and the Rest of the World is John McEnroe.
Three of the six players are ranked based on their ATP rankings as of the Monday after Roland Garros. And three are “captain picks.”
Thus, we arrive at Casper Ruud, Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Andy Murray with Matteo Berrettini as a substitute, in Europe Already Taylor Fritz, Félix Auger-Aliassime, Diego Schwartzman, Frances Tiafoe, Alex de Miñaur, John Isner, Jack Sock with Tommy Paul as backup for the Rest of the World.
how to play
The event consists of five sessions played over three days (Friday to Sunday). Both singles and doubles are best-of-three sets with tiebreaks. In the event of equality, the third set is a 10-point super tiebreak.
Each player competes in at least one singles match during the first two days. And no player can play singles more than twice during the three days.
At least four of the six players must play doubles. No doubles combination is played more than once, unless it defines on day 3 and they are tied 12-12.
Who is the champion
Each match win is worth one point on Friday, two points on Saturday and three points on Sunday. The first team to reach 13 points out of a total of 24 available points wins the Laver Cup. In the event of a tie after all 12 matches have been played, a final doubles match is played. And in the event that only one match is required on Sunday, an exhibition match is played after the trophy ceremony.
