Uruguayan vacationers opt for Argentina due to lower prices

Montevideo, Sep 20 (Prensa Latina) Argentina is today one of the main tourist destinations for Uruguayans, who take advantage of the exchange rate difference and prices that reduce expenses in the neighboring country.

The president of the Association of Travel Agencies (Audavi), Carlos Pera, said that among the places preferred by Uruguayans are Calafate, Ushuaia, Bariloche, San Martín de lso Andes, Península Valdés, Mendoza and waterfalls, all in the gaucho geography. .

These destinations are far from Buenos Aires, which is why many opt for air transport, said Pera.

On September 22, the spring period begins in Uruguay and many take vacations, although the weather forecast predicts winter days this week.

But the movement of Uruguayans to Argentina has already begun, as confirmed by the head of Migration for the city of Fray Bentos, Jorge Graziani.

Fray Bentos is the capital of the department of Río Negro and is located on the east bank of the Uruguay River.

It has a deep-water port and is linked to the Argentine province of Entre Ríos by the binational project “Puente Libertador General San Martín”.

According to Graziani, from September 16 to 18, some 95,000 people left through this route, so immigration services will be reinforced in the coming days with officials from Montevideo.

The exchange rate and price difference between Argentina and Uruguay marks today a historical level in the last 40 years.

The Uruguayan government is studying measures to deal with this situation, particularly in the border areas.
